Garlic Green Beans
This is a very quick and easy recipe. Also, it is a great basic recipe to add whatever other ingredients you desire or have on hand.
Ingredients:
- 14 - 16 oz whole green beans, fresh (ends trimmed) or frozen
- 2 large garlic cloves, minced
- 1 1/2 tbs of olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- black pepper, freshly ground or white pepper to taste
Directions:
- Bring water to boil in a medium pot. Add some salt to the water and blanch fresh whole green beans by gently boiling them for 4-5 minutes (or 2-3 minutes for frozen). Remove from heat and drain in colander. Stop further cooking by running cold water over them, or shocking them in ice cold water. Drain well.
- Heat oil in large sauté pan on medium heat. Add green beans to pan and toss with oil.
- Sprinkle vegetables with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 5-10 minutes or until desired tenderness. Add garlic and continue to cook for 1 minute. Serve.
Comments:
-
This recipe has a subtle flavoring of garlic and is not
overpowering. Add more garlic if you want more of a garlic flavor.
You can cook them even longer if your family likes them really soft. However, the longer you cook them...the less nutritional value they will have.
Tips:
- None
Variations:
- When adding the vegetables to the pan, also add 1 shallot that has been chopped.
- Stir 1 tbs of melted butter into 1/4 cup of bread crumbs. Toss in 1/4 cup of grated parmesan. Sprinkle mixture over the sautéed green beans and serve.
