Rice Krispies Treats

1This site would not be complete without this family favorite. I remember as a kid the first time I ate my first Rice Krispies Treat. My first grade teacher, Mrs. Wash, brought them in for the class and the kids went crazy for them! She was the nicest, prettiest and sweetest teacher even before she brought these in. I didn't think she could get any nicer!

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 10 oz pkg of regular marshmallows or 4 cups of miniature marshmallows
  • 3 tbs butter or margarine

Directions:

  1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
  2. Add Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal and combine with melted marshmallows until well coated.
  3. Place into a buttered 9" x 13" baking dish.
  4. Cut into 2" squares and store in a single layer in airtight container. In my house, these treats don't even make it to the container!

Comments:

- This is the original Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treat recipe.

- My kids just love to make different shapes out of these. Their favorite is heart shaped with some colored icing.

- This is a great recipe to introduce your kids to cooking.

Tips:

- I will grease the saucepan all the way up the sides with cooking spray to keep the marshmallows from sticking to it.

- To wash out the pan, fill it up with hot water first and let to sit for a while and it washes away clean.
