Sweet Tea
This tea is a quick method of making iced tea. It has just the right sweetness and cools you down on a hot summer day.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of water
- 6 cups of cold water
- 2 large family size tea bags or 8 regular size tea bags
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- pinch of baking soda, (optional)
- lemon slices or wedges
Directions:
- In a small pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat.
- Add tea bags to boiled water and allow to steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove tea bags and discard.
- Add sugar to the hot tea and stir until sugar is completely melted.
- Add pinch of baking soda.
- Add 6 cups of cold water and stir. Pour into pitcher and refrigerate until serving time.
- Serve with lemon slices or wedges.
Comments:
- Why the baking soda? Typically you steep tea for no more than 5 minutes. However, for a stronger tea such as for iced tea, this recipe steeps the tea for a longer period of time which can lead to a bitter tea. Adding a pinch of baking soda offsets the bitterness and makes the iced tea smoother tasting. Be careful not to add too much baking soda, just a pinch.
Tips:
- The leftover tea bags can be used in your garden as a fertilizer.
